May 2006 - 20th Anniversary in Maui - It was VERY cool. The kids loved it. There really isn't anything that's not cool about Maui. We've been there a few times but this last time was the most fun. Now that our kids are a bit older there is really nothing they can't do. They took surf lessons, we all went parasailing, went snorkeling at Molokini crater and then John and I even got to go to dinner for our anniversary ALONE as our resort was walking distance from lots of shopping and restaurants (the Hula Grill is great) and the kids stayed in the condo and watched videos ... a fun time had by all!
Summer 2002 - I was promoted to Sergeant. The Sheriff's office was called up to help in Showlow AZ during the terrible wildfires this summer. I was promoted while I was up there. They had an "informal field promotion" and had to duct tape the Sergeant stripes to my shirt!! Being promoted that way was better then the formal service they gave me a couple of weeks after I was back! Now I just have to start studying for the Lieutenant's exam!!!

April 2005 - I coordinate Technology planning for the Judicial branch in Arizona and staff the Commission on Technology, the body that oversees IT and approves projects at the Courts. It's a big change from my Executive branch position with the Government Information Technology Agency. I'm still taking the bus downtown every day to avoid putting miles on my 22-year-old car (I just can't bear to part with it) and to lower my gas-related costs (I put in about $12 worth every 6 weeks)!

I am married to Alex Holman (SF native) and we live in the heart of the Northern California wine country. We have no children ... yet. We have an art studio; my husband makes jewelry and I make all kinds of crazy tactile collages, and jewelry as well. I hope to be able to make a living with my fine art one day. My life has been amazing and awesome in every way possible ... and I will continue to "Party on Wayne!" August 2006 - I wish I could attend but was not able to get away so here is an update ...
My husband, Danny, and I eloped in Turks & Caicos and recently celebrated our 12-year anniversary. I'm still in the Arts & Craft industry and we have our own Sales, Marketing & Consulting firm specializing in kid's crafts products, Craft Marketeers, Ltd. located in Cincinnati, Ohio. We sell to retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores, Michaels Arts & Crafts, Hobby Lobby, and Joann Stores. Our two big accomplishments this past year were creating a formula which turned white plaster in color by just adding water and expanding the kids' suncatcher department in Wal-Mart by adding 23 new items � a lot of hard work but it was all worth it! As for family life, no kids but a year ago became a great aunt for the second time. We do have a new puppy, Katie, Dalmatian/Boarder Collie mix who is a complete terror but she's a cutie and loves driving trips of which we take often. Speaking of trips, this past June we were in San Francisco and drove north to the Oregon Coast. We got the chance to drive through the Redwoods and stopped off at many over looks. I was very impressed with the giant Sequoias which where phenomenal, especially in a convertible. We also visited Mount St. Helens which, at the time, was smoking so we were on the watch. Finally, stayed in Seattle and took a harbor cruise and saw Mt. Rainier which we were told is not often � a great trip all around. I'll be thinking of you all over the weekend and glad Chris will be attending so he can fill me in on all of you. Have a great time and take a lot of photos!

July 2006 - I bought an Airplane!
December 2002 - We're doing well in California. Kids are getting bigger (16 year old stepson's taller than me already, but then that isn't difficult!). I'm gonna' have to go to night school to keep ahead of my 4 year old daughter! I'll enclose a photo of the family (if I look goofy, it's because I'm saying "Cheeeeeeze!"). I keep working for Boeing in SoCal, but had an October trip to Seattle to help the Flight Test department (just can't seem to get far enough away...). More exciting moments I'd rather not have, and 90+ hour workweeks to ice it. Never got a day off so I didn't even go see the Space Needle! Engineering is frequently a great deal of detective work, trying to find things, data and how other folks did things in the past.
Back in July, I set another Region record in my glider. This record is for Northern California (Region 11). I flew an out-and-return course of 192 miles at an average of 39.65 mph to set a speed record for the 300 km (186 mile) out-and-return. May not seem fast, but I'm flying a low performance antique glider (remember my VW?) made in 1965 (redline is 105 mph), so skill is more important than "horsepower." I was typically flying 60-75 mph, but when you stop to circle and gain altitude, your average speed over the ground drops like the proverbial brick. To make life more challenging, I didn't get through the start gate right off the bat, so the flight took six hours and ten minutes! My wife and daughter patiently chased up the Owens Valley providing ground and moral support when only the latter was necessary. My flight went from Lone Pine, CA up to Montgomery Pass (Northeast of Bishop) and back. I think Deep Springs College (where Mike Hoekstra is teaching) is in this neighborhood (lookout below!).
We're looking forward to a nice, quiet (?) holiday break, then back to the grindstone in '03.

Summer 2001 - In May 2000, I set a Region 12 (SoCal) class altitude record of 28,311 feet in my 1965 Schweizer SGS1-26 GLIDER! I'm a Flight Test/Stability & Control Engineer at Boeing (Long Beach), I worked as a software engineer at GDE Systems in San Deigo from 1995-1996 and worked at Northrop in L.A. from 1985-1995. I spent 10 years at Northrop, working on various "things" including the B-2. I then took a "software engineer" position at an outfit called GDE Systems in Rancho Bernardo, CA (north of San Diego). Unix mission (WW III) planning software, and I was trying to keep them honest about what airplanes could and couldn't do. I left there after 1.000 years to go work Commercial Flight Test at McDonnell Douglas (to become a tiny little division of Boeing). I went to work on flying airplanes (riding in the back, usually), getting upside down a few times and saving the airplane from certain destruction at least four or five dozen times.
The SoCal climate is unbeatable (especially for pilots). Not too hot, not too cold, if you want snow in the winter, just drive a few hours to some excellent skiing. The parks are breathtaking (ask Kathy Schleicher) - I've been to Yosemite, the Grand Canyon is 7 hours by car, 2 hours by the planes I rent.

October 2006 - The photo above of Lee and me was taken last weekend when we attended the Columbian Ball to benefit the Museum of Science and Industry.
July 2006 - We're in the process of moving back to Illinois on July 27th, just in time for the reunion - hopefully I will be able to take a break from unpacking boxes, etc., to make it to the dinner. It's a bit strange coming back to the area after being away for 20 years - spent most of it traveling & living in the the Far East & Europe. Along the way I met my husband Lee in London and lived there for about 12 years. We moved to Doylestown, PA about 4 years ago with plans to eventually move back to Europe. But you know what they say about best laid plan & such ... We were on our way to moving to Paris and Lee got an offer from Abbott to head their Patents (Pharma) division, and can you believe he chose Illinois over Paris! Although being a Brit, the States is more exciting for him than Europe, but I hope to have a chance in Paris someday.
But anyway, here we are and it's a great opportunity for the boys to get to know their extended family and for me to catch up with old friends. (I apologize - I haven't been a very good penpal!) My youngest starts Kindergarten in the Fall, so I'll now have a chance to figure out what I want to be when I grow up! In the meantime, I have a few projects around the new house - does anyone know a good Architect? Cheers!

I took an amazing trip to Calgary and Alberta July 2001 - I did actually get to the Stampede this year and saw my first chuck wagon races. Pretty cool. After CBC celebrations in Strathmore, the faculty went to Canmore/Banff for our annual meetings, then I stayed in the area for a few extra days for vacation ... even got to the Columbia Icefields one day. So, that's the quick version of my most recent Canadian adventure.

October 2006 - We love the San Juan Islands and all of the British Columbia Islands (Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound area, and many others). Every summer we take several boat trips to visit the various Islands. This is one of the reasons we probably won't ever move from the Seattle area. The Islands are amazing and well worth the time to visit them. I expect that when I fully retire, I will spend my summer months on San Juan Island.

September 2003 - Things here pretty good -- busy with various kinds of freelance work (for WHO, a Windmill company, the local University press, someone's magic realist novel), and trying to prep our little apartment for our first rugrat, due come December. Spent a couple month in the Northeastern U.S. & Canada this summer, saw a few old WW mates, too many mosquitoes on that side of the puddle.
Winter 2002, from the Deep Springs College Alumni Newsletter: "Veteran Deep Springer Misha Hoekstra returned this fall semester to teach Ulysses and Creative Writing. Like always, the students loved having him and his wife, Anne Lietzen, at Deep Springs. Misha always had time for students whenever they wanted to talk. He continued the tradition of the marathon Ulysses reading. Anne always worked hard in the garden and was a great friend to the community. They returned to their home in Denmark."
2001 - I'm flying stateside a few weeks later to teach fall semester at Deep Springs College, near the California/Nevada border. I was Speechwriter for Anita Roddick from 1998-99, Dean of Deep Springs College from 1996-97, and a Writer-in-Residence at Cornell in 1993.
Also, I'm interested in getting the WWHS letterman jacket I never bought when I was in high school. If anyone knows where I can buy one, or wants to sell me theirs, please contact me. Size L or XL, though I couldn't tell you sizes (I'm 6'1" if that helps).

Late 2002 - Things are busy here. We now have eight attorneys and four staff people and two offices. We currently have large cases pending in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Nebraska, including counsel in an $80 million dollar ammonia explosion case being litigated in LeMars, Iowa.
In late 2001 I had an eventful trial in Omaha. The trial started on Halloween and ended on November 8, 2001. It was exciting when the jury announced the verdict. They had to answer "yes" to the first 4 questions on the verdict form for us to win. I sat at counsel's table with my legal pad making check marks with each "yes" and then when they said "no" to the fifth question (was my client negligent) I had to fight to contain myself. Next, the jury had to tell us the damages they believed we proved -- they awarded my client $12 million!!!! I turned to my client and he said "Maybe we should have asked for more." Needless to say, I am very happy and my clients are very happy.
I expect that the defendants will file an appeal (if only to attempt to get us to agree to settle for less than the $12 million that the jury awarded). It certainly is a great way to start my new firm.

April 2006 - I recently took an academic position at the University of Pittsburgh, doing clinical research. I'm on the Med School faculty, with a second appointment in bioengineering. When we moved to Pittsburgh, we found the house of our dreams. All and all, life is incredibly good for me and my family right now.
We live in the borough of Munhall in the Monongahela River Valley, otherwise known as Steel Valley. In fact, Adam goes to Steel Valley high school. Now, there is a large shopping complex where the mills used to be. It is only now that the neighborhoods are climbing from the slump that hit when the mills closed. Some of the larger houses in the neighborhood were built by Carnegie for his foremen, and legend has it that there are tunnels from the houses that go down to the waterfront because it was not safe for the managers to walk among the workers. Very cool neighborhood.

February 2006 - Working for Vail Ambi during ski season is always busy. Plus putting in over 100 hours a month at the fire station. My husband Gary runs 400+ head of cattle as a cow/calf operation with his twin brother on the family-owned ranch. Our daughters Abbey and Belle are also very involved in agriculture with their own registered Rambouillet and Suffolk flock of sheep, 4-H steers and heifers, showing at the National Stock Show in Denver, showing at the local Routt County Fair, Livestock Judging Team and playing the saxophone (Abbey) and violin club (Abbey, Belle and Mom). The girls also own a soap company. Stop by and say "Hi" if you are ever around Vail or Steamboat Springs. The ranch is located smack dab between the two towns!

June 2007 - I took over the position of assistant dean in January 2007 when my boss retired. Wright State is in a huge period of change--new president, new provost, new dean in my college, new integrated systems software campus-wide, etc. so I can never quite tell what each day will bring. Tabatha graduated from WSU in June 2007 with a BA in Sociology and is engaged with plans to marry in October 2008. Her fiance is finishing his master's degree in adolescent and young adult education this summer and looking for jobs. If all goes well, they will be moving out of my condo sometime before fall. Ryan will be starting a program at Penn State this fall (online) to become certified in turf grass management. He has worked in the field for the last three years and decided that he wants to make it his career. Eventually, he will probably work on a bachelor's degree in turf grass so that he can work up to being the boss somewhere. He and his girlfriend will probably be moving to Louisville, Kentucky sometime this summer because she just got a job to teach high school English there. I can't believe that I'll be an "empty-nester" soon. How did I get this old this fast?

March 2006 - I just had another short story published in a literary Journal called Julien's Journal.
January 2005 - It was quite exciting to be a part of the 2004 Bridport Prize - they had over 4000 entrants so when they told me that I was one of the 12 writers that they were going to publish, I was shocked.
Also, a one-act play of mine will be performed at Circle Theatre in Forest Park at their New Works Festival in the Spring of 2005.

July 2006 - Since 2001 I've been promoted from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer to Reader in the Department of Geography at King's College London, won two teaching awards, and taken on a few new research grants, including one looking at heavy-metal contamination of water, crops, and soil in Zambia, Africa, and another one looking at correlations in time series of extreme events, such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods, etc. In another research grant, I received a one-year 'buyout' of my teaching/administrative duties at King's College London so I could spend the time at Oxford Mathematical Institute just working on research. This gave me a much needed break to concentrate on research during all of 2004, during which I published with a couple of colleagues research on wildfires, and some other research on landslides, both in 'very good' locations for the sciences, and also got to do lots of cycling around Oxford (bringing me down to my highschool weight of 120 pounds, which has made me a much happier person!) Except for the one year period in Oxford, I've spent the last five years in London, and am truly enjoying (except for not being able to buy a house, they are expensive) living in London. Lots of stuff to do, and see, and easy access to many European countries and Africa, which I've been travelling to on frequent trips for research, conferences, etc. Still no partner, but am very content at being single, with a handful of strong friends both at work and outside of work.
I have done work as a Postdoc/Visiting Lecturer/PhD in Cornell's Geological Sciences department from 1991-2000, was a Fulbright Fellow in Argentina from 1998-99, an Operator/Engineer at the Stanford Linear Accelerator from 1988-91, and worked for the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa from 1986-88.

January 2003 - Happy Holidays to all of you! How's life been treating you? 2002 was hectic here - glad it's gone! Looking forward to less stress in 2003 (hopefully), and some time for myself, to exercise, relax, etc. My daughter Kelly is a freshman and my son is in 8th grade - it's soooo scary! Kelly is a cheerleader and has tons of friends, has a busy schedule everyday - we work our family calendar around her! Kind of wish she was quiet and shy, and not so popular, she went to homecoming (scary for Mom!) And now she's asked someone to turnabout ... Having a daughter is such a challenge! There are so many things I'm just not prepared for!
Work is good, been real busy, still working from home doing billing. Works out very nicely for me! I'm thankful I can work my hours around a lot of things!

May 2006 - 20th Anniversary in Maui - It was VERY cool. The kids loved it. There really isn't anything that's not cool about Maui. We've been there a few times but this last time was the most fun. Now that our kids are a bit older there is really nothing they can't do. They took surf lessons, we all went parasailing, went snorkeling at Molokini crater and then John and I even got to go to dinner for our anniversary ALONE as our resort was walking distance from lots of shopping and restaurants (the Hula Grill is great) and the kids stayed in the condo and watched videos ... a fun time had by all!
August 2003 - I took a new job Managing 2 offices with First American Title. It has proven to be quite a challenge, but so far so good. Things are good here. John is busy, I'm busy, kids are growing ... same old, same old.

January 2005 - My family and I moved to Highland WI a little over 2 years ago. We live on a 47-acre farm, and are currently raising horses. We have a total of 7 horses as well as 2 miniature horses and a Welsh Quarter Pony named Sundance who is our Rodeo pony. My youngest daughter Shannon, is very much into the Rodeos. She has competed in several and has taken in a few 1st and 2nd place ribbons doing poles and barrels.
I make mufflers for Volvo Semi Trucks and John Deere Tractors. I am planning in my spare time, if I ever get any, taking online classes and studying Computer Technology.

In March 2002, the Rueth family went on a 12-day sailboat trip in the British Virgin Islands. We traveled with Jim Rueth (brother), Vince and Kathy Klees (sister), and Natalie, Madeline, and Gretchen (the Klees girls). The 51-ft sailboat Johnny Be Good from Road Town, Tortola was captained by Vince and Jim. In the 12 days we visited 12 islands: Tortola, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke, St. John (USVI), Peter Island, Salt Island, Ginger Island, Virgin Gorda, Marina Cay, Guana Island, Prickly Pear Island, and Cooper Island. Everyone had fun snorkeling, swimming, diving, exploring, and relaxing. We visited many great places for food, drink, and fun, including Willy T's, Foxy's, Soggy Dollar Bar, Woody's, Pusser's, Bomba Shack, Myett's, and Saba Rock.

I've been in the log home business since 1993. My company does the exterior/interior stains and the chinking between the logs, as seen in the pictures of the new log homes. We also do high-end residential interior paint and finishing. My wife Carrie and I share a small cabin with our three cats just outside downtown Evergreen. We share our yard with the elk, deer, coyotes, raccoons, and other varmints who venture through!
Carrie and I met in 1994 while she was on vacation from New York. She is a domestic artist and spends time with her friends volunteering as a member of Starfleet. I enjoy hiking and rockhounding, and getting in some flyfishing in my spare time.

What's Up with Sherri July 2006 - Harrison is about 2 minutes outside of Chattanooga on Lake Chicamauga (part of the TN River). Gave up the personal training so I can focus on training myself now. Belong to 2 gyms and have my own trainer to keep me working to failure. I love it! Got a stress-free job to make the hours go by and bring in some spending $. I'm a receptionist at a lighting gallery! Woo hoo! It is quite funny since I answer phones all day and can't understand these southerners ... and the don't understand me either. But hey, I still get paid for it. Not a bad deal. Looking into buying a boat next year since we are in shorts until the end of November, we have a much longer season to utilize a boat. Looking forward to that. My daughter, Janelle (23) stayed up North and has her own house. My son, Calvin (19), came down South with us and is going to UTC (Univ of TN Chattanooga). December 2002 - I am a Personal Trainer now with the most clients at Rush Copley (54 last week)! I need to cut back in the new year. My new sport is Olympic Style weight lifting. That would be clean and jerk and snatch lifts (nice names eh)? I found a new trainer - he is a fireman here in Aurora. He's made me work so hard I have passed out and thrown up. Good thing he's a paramedic too! Anyway, I'm looking to compete locally in Aurora in April 2003. I have to wear a wrestling singlet for this sport. Does anyone have any old ones? Ha Ha! Could this get more degrading? I am stubborn though and will push through it. It is keeping me out of trouble anyway. Besides all that, my daughter has moved out on her own and my son is in Driver Ed. I am now old! Hope all is well with you. We plan on an incredible Christmas. Hope yours is that good too. Summer 2001 - I have been in Bodybuilding since 1998 as well as in Fitness competitions. I have done pretty well until March 2001 when I was injured. I was the Novice Lightweight Il State Champion in 1999. I had to pass on the competitions this year, but hope to hit one Spring 2002. In addition to the job at the Rush-Copley Healthplex, I also train individuals/couples how to pose for competitions and choreograph their routines. This winter I may actually bite the bullet and be certified as a personal trainer (I've been too busy so far, with my own training and competing). |

What's up with Lisa October 2006 - I am sorry I missed the last couple reunions. I was out of town again this summer for the 25th. I have three boys 16, 12 and 10 and trying to keep up with them is crazy. My older son has played basketball over at Wheaton South and it is amazing how big that school is.
